My friends are nice people and I like them a lot. I am sure that you will, too, although ... er ... you may find them a bit strange. After all, they are engineers, and when they tell you a “true” story in their funny language, you may never know whether what you get is an authentic account of their adventures, a load of little lies served with a smile, or some “linear combination” of the two, as they would put it.
